A New Low
I consider myself
lucky. Unlike many other American
expats here in Taiwan, I have a number of pro-Bush email correspondents
stateside who keep me informed through their, well, inimitable forwards. The following one came to me May 26,
2004, and I'm glad it did. I knew
nothing of Koranic predictions of our push to remake the Muslim world.
To judge by all the
addresses above the text, it had already been around the Republican email
grapevine a bit. It really is
eerie, I think. I post it here as
testimony of sorts, along with my reply, which, to tell the truth, won me a
small spate of hate mail--but really, it's hard sometimes to resist making certain
clarifications. E.M.

This is eerie...
This is something to
think about! Most people know that America is typically represented by an
eagle. Well Saddam and Ben Laden should have read up on their Muslim passages.
The following verse is from the Quran (the Islamic Bible).
Quran
(9:11) -- For
it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of
the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the
people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle
cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.
Note the verse number!!!!!

Wow, this really is eerie! Except, friends, that the verse isn't
actually in the Koran. Oh. Hmm.
But still it's pretty
eerie, you know. I mean it's eerie
how nutty Americans are getting.
How absolutely nutty and wacked-out, how willing to believe whatever
they're fed, without caring to verify anything, without any sense at all of due
process or balanced judgment. It's
eerie and spooky really. But more
than eerie and spooky--it's shameful, it's pathetic.
I don't know who the
bigger weenie is, the person who concocted this little fib or the people who
forwarded it. But one thing is
sure--I'm betting both writer and forwarders are voting W. come November. After all, it's obvious you people will
support any sham eagle that comes along as long as it flatters your bloated vanity
and overblown self-importance.
Really, you've all
become so vain and self-righteous you imagine the whole world is just aching to
be remade in your image. And if
they aren't, then you'll force them to pretend they are, right?
Not content to
manipulate their governments and bomb their cities, you even think you have the
right to add verses to their scripture in order to justify yourselves. Your greasy fingers even reach out to
write your silly self-congratulations into their holy books. Arrogant half-wit boobs is what you
are. I'm ashamed to share my
nationality with you.

By the way, if you look in the Koran at
Sura 9:7-11, you will find the following, you raving wankers you.
How can there be an agreement for the idolaters with Allah and with His Apostle; except those with whom you made an agreement at the Sacred Mosque? So as long as they are true to you, be true to them; surely Allah loves those who are careful (of their duty).
How (can it be)! while if they prevail
against you, they would not pay regard in your case to ties of relationship,
nor those of covenant; they please you with their mouths while their hearts do
not consent; and most of them are transgressors.
They have taken a small price for the communications of Allah, so they turn away from His way; surely evil is it that they do.
They do not pay regard to ties of
relationship nor those of covenant in the case of a believer; and these are
they who go beyond the limits.
But if they repent and keep up prayer
and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make the
communications clear for a people who know.
